On the Question of European sources for the Translation of the New Testament by Epiphanius Slavinetsky and Euthymius Chudovsky (1670–1680s)
The article provides a textual analysis of the Rule of the Singing of the Psalter The subject of the research is the marginal notes in the Greek-Slavonic New Testament (GIM, Syn. Greek 473), translated by Epiphany Slavinetsky and in the 1670–1680s corrected by Evfimy Chudovsky. Varying Means of Grammatical Parallelism in the Church Slavonic Translations of Psalms of the 11th–16th Centuries
As a metrically organized poetic text, the Psalter is built on the principle of substantive and formal parallelism of verses and stanzas in the Hebrew text as well as in Greek and Church Slavonic translations. In the article, based on the material of Slavic translations of different times (from the Sinai Psalter of the 11 th century to the Psalter of 1552 by Maximus the Greek), cases of assimilation / dissimilation of grammatical forms in paralle…
Exegesis in the Translation of the Psalter of 1552 by Maximus the Greek
The article focuses on Maximus the Greek’s lexical revision in the Psalter of 1552. A wide range of lexical corruptions allow us to consider the text as a separate edition of a Church Slavonic Psalter. The grounds for lexical editing are various: inaccurate translations of the direct meaning of the Greek lexeme, non-contextual translations of polysemantic Greek words, and finally, the elimination of variable synonymous translations of the same Gr…
Лингвистические особенности перевода 'латинских' книг Геннадиевской библии 1499 г
The purpose of this article is to reconstruct and interpret the principles of translation in the 1499 Gennadij Bible. This reconstruction speaks for the high linguistic quality of this translation, the work of the Dominican monk Veniamin. His translation can be considered an original textual codification of Church Slavonic. However, Veniamin’s codification conflicted with the use of contemporary Church Slavonic texts. Some non-standard grammatica…
