    Pierre Mcdonagh•ARTICLE•Consumption Markets & Culture•2017•Citada por: 2

Football has always been an important part of consumer culture, in many countries producing a global audience for World Cups and millions of people celebrating annual football competitions. It was once described by iconic Liverpool Football Club (FC) football manager Bill Shankly as follows, “Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don’t like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.” This marketplace…

Myths have come of age in consumer research. In the 22 years since Levy's inaugural article, the literature has grown at an impressive rate.Yet important questions remain unanswered: What makes some myths especially meaningful to consumers? Why are certain consumer myths more prevalent and less perishable than others? This article argues that ambiguity is an influential factor.Using the RMS Titanic as an empirical exemplar, it unpacks the principal …

  • Who are organic food consumers? A compilation and review of why people purchase organic food

Open Access•Renée Shaw Hughner, Pierre Mcdonagh et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Consumer Behaviour•2007

This paper integrates and synthesizes the findings of published research on organic food consumption. The literature clearly indicates that the word “organic” has many meanings, that consumers of organic foods are not homogeneous in demographics or in beliefs, and that further research could help better describe the various con…

  • The Alienated Artist and the Political Economy of Organised Art

    A Bradshaw, Pierre Mcdonagh et al.•ARTICLE•Consumption Markets & Culture•2006•Citada por: 1•Referências: 8

In an age where business literature is turning to artists for inspiration, we pause to remember the Romantic ideal of alienated artists resisting commerciality. Through interviewing professional musicians, we explore how artistic alienation remains relevant as part of a complex balancing act between art and commerce and reflect on the implications for the notional field of art and management

  • Exiled Music Herself, Pushed to the Edge of Existence

    A Bradshaw, Pierre Mcdonagh et al.•ARTICLE•Consumption Markets & Culture•2005•Citada por: 5•Referências: 9

In reconsidering music in the background, the authors look to what Adorno said seventy years ago about music as aural wallpaper, as the Muzak corporation put it: “music is there to be listened to but Muzak is there to be heard”. Examining the history of listening, and in particular the influence of romanticism and bohemia, we explore through depth interviews the experiences of musicians who perform background music. This text is enlivened by an a…

  • Counter-culture and consumer society

    John F Desmond, John Desmond et al.•ARTICLE•Consumption Markets & Culture•2000•Citada por: 4•Referências: 13

This paper addresses a topic which has been relatively neglected in the marketing and consumer research literature. Our aim is to rejuvenate discussion of what constitutes counter‐culture and what it implies about culture and consumption. Drawing on Hegel's lordbondsman tale, we present three different ways of framing this complex subject. These frames are entitled authentic counterculture, the mediation of counter‐culture and counter‐culture as …
