Dog Pathologies in Central–Eastern Gaul During the Iron Age and Roman Period (500 bce– 400 ce )
This article presents an analysis of paleopathologies in dogs from the Iron Age through the Roman period (500 bce– 400 ce ) in Central–Eastern Gaul. The analysis focuses on the quantification of paleopathological traces in an attempt to identify changes in human–dog relationships between these two periods. A case report of possible Legg-Calve-Perthes disease on Roman dogs from Gaul (France)
This case study reviews the first archeological cases of avascular femoral head necrosis, known as Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, on two small Roman dogs from ancient Gaul (France). LCPD diagnosis is difficult in advanced degenerative stages of the disease and one of its differential diagnoses is slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE).
