South Korean managerial reactions to voicing discontent
Using a scenario‐based experiment, this study examined how employee attitude and employee communication styles affected managers' reactions to employees' objections to a company policy. Based on a sample of 185 middle m…
A multilevel study of leadership, empowerment, and performance in teams.
A multilevel model of leadership, empowerment, and performance was tested using a sample of 62 teams, 445 individual members, 62 team leaders, and 31 external managers from 31 stores of a Fortune 500 company. Leader-member exchange and leadership climate related differently to individual and team empowerment and interacted to influence individual empowerment. Also, several relationships were supported in more but not in less interdependent teams.…
Beyond Self-Management
We examined the antecedents, consequences, and mediational role of team empowerment using 111 work teams in four organizations. More empowered teams were also more productive and proactive than less emp…

Open Tertiary Education in Australia
The draft report of the Committee on Open University, Open Tertiary Education , is criticized on the grounds that it is overly conservative and makes little contribution to the opening up of tertiary education in Australia. The problems inherent in government committees, particularly in the field of education, are considered. Using the data provided in the report, the current closed system of tertiary education is criticized and a number of propo…

Influence of sex role stereotypes on personnel decisions.
An in-basket exercise was used to investigate the influence of sex role stereotypes on the personnel decisions of 95 bank supervisors. The design consisted of four separate experiments (in-basket items) in which an employee's sex and other situational attributes were manipulated. Results confirmed the hypothesis that male administrators tend to discriminate against female employees in personnel decisions involving promotion, development, and supe…
