  • I just need a little support

    Open Access•Patricia N E Roberson, Sarah B Wood et al.•ARTICLE•Personal Relationships•2024•Referências: 2

Marital quality factors (i.e., support and strain) are associated with hemoglobin A1C (A1C) for people with diabetes. However, how these marital factors might be linked to A1C, in combination, is unclear. This study uses Midlife in the United States Biomarker Project data to examine independent and moderated associations between marital strain and marital support and A1C for individuals with diabetes mellitus ( N = 136). Marital strain and suppor…

  • Distribution and Migration of the Bowhead Whale, Balaena mysticetus , in the Eastern North American Arctic

Open Access•René Reeves, Edward Mitchell et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•1983

Large catches of bowhead whales, Balaena mysticetus, were made in the Eastern Arctic of North America, principally in Davis Strait, Baffin Bay, the Lancaster Sound region, Hudson Bay, and southern Foxe Basin, between 1719 and 1915. Initial stock sizes have been estimated as 11 000 in 1825 for the "Davis Strait stock" and 680 in 1859 for the "Hudson Bay stock." The separate identity of these two putative stocks needs confirmation through direct ev…

  • The Alaska Bowhead Problem

Open Access•Edward Mitchell, Edward D Mitchell et al.•ARTICLE•ARCTIC•1980

The continued removal of individuals from the depleted Bering Sea stock of bowhead whales (Balaena mysticetus) by Alaskan Eskimos constitutes a risk of unknown magnitude to this last concentrated remnant of a once abundant, widely distributed species. The principal international forum for discussions of scientific, technical, management, social, and political aspects of the Bowhead Problem has been the International Whaling Commission. These disc…

  • From Action to Essence

    Edward Mitchell•ARTICLE•American Literature•1968

TV ELL OVER A DECADE AGO Elizabeth S. Foster, herself one of leaders in trend she described, asserted that Melville's The ,Confidence-Man was, at last, being rescued from the dust of neglect and murk of obscurity.1 Professor Foster apparently means by obscurity simply ignorance, both of novel and its general significance. If, however, rescue means general agreement regarding a demonstrable reading of The Confidence-Man, then it is questionable wh…
