Sequence of ossification of the foot in marmosets ( Saguinus oedipus )
The cleared and alizarin‐stained feet of eight marmoset ( Saguinus oedipus ) fetuses revealed a sequence of initial ossification of the 19 bones of the foot that is almost totally different from that of man. The most striking difference is in the order of ossification of the distal phalanx of the big toe; in man it is the first bone to commence ossification, in the marmoset it is the fourteenth.
