Within this context, this study evaluates the output-oriented technical and scale efficiency of Italian theatrical firms from 2006 to 2014, using total operating revenues as the measure of artistic ou…

We investigate the factors attracting FDI into highly diversified Russian regions during the phase of transition, and verify the impact of transition experience on the current FDI inflow. Using cross-sectional and panel data, we demonstrate that the highly inhomogeneous investment pattern is explained, in addition to classical demand factors, by specific economic and socio-institutional regional characteristics. Russia appears as an idiosyncratic…

  • Mater Litigans

    Caroline Castiglione•ARTICLE•Historical Reflections/Réflexions…•2009

This microhistory analyzes the efforts of a widowed mother, Teresa Boncompagni, to maintain custody of her only daughter, Cornelia. Teresa protested her brother-in-law's legal right to Cornelia's custody. The mother's resistance combined a savvy understanding of the Roman judicial system with an insistence upon the centrality of motherly affection and maternal daily care to the child's well-being. She argued that the concept of free will necessit…

During a frustrating custody battle for his niece, a cardinal in the Roman Catholic Church (Francesco Barberini Junior, (1662--1738)) successfully plotted her kidnapping, nearly lost custody of her because of his dramatic tirades before the pope, and in calmer but no less bitter moments, lamented what he saw as the dangerous link between public sympathy for the child's mother and the legal decisions of papal magistrates in the 1720s. This article…

Less well known is the impact that economic crisis had on the dynamics between family members. This article uses a microhistorical approach to examine how a Roman aristocratic mother and her son conceptualized the crisis facing their family at the turn of the eighteenth century. Through a comparative reading of two…
