  • An 8500‐Year Record of Lacustrine Activity and Changes in Archaeological Settlement Patterns in the Magdalena Lake Basin, Jalisco, Mexico

    Open Access•Kirk C Anderson, Christopher S Beekman et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2025•Referências: 6

The Magdalena Lake Basin of Jalisco, Mexico, has a rich cultural history from the Early Formative to Protohistoric Periods (1500 BCE–1600 CE). We investigated the relationship between climate chronologies, lake‐level variations, and cultural changes before European contact. Chronostratigraphic reconstructions identified lake‐forming periods reflecting regional and local paleoclimate sequences and coincide with variations in site location, numbers…

  • Chronostratigraphic and Paleoenvironmental Evidence for Marsh Habitats during the Early Pueblo I (A.D. 700–900) Occupation of Ridges Basin, Southwest Colorado, USA

    Open Access•Kirk C Anderson, James M Potter•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2015•Referências: 6

Ridges Basin was home to one of the largest early village communities in the American Southwest. The short‐lived occupation grew rapidly around A.D. 750, construction peaked in the A.D. 780s, but Ridges Basin was depopulated by A.D. 810. Chronostratigraphic, paleoenvironmental, and archaeological investigations indicate that abundant food resources related to intermittent marsh habitats attracted migrants into the basin and aided the growing popu…

  • Early Pueblo Responses to Climate Variability

Benjamin A Bellorado, Benjamin Bellorado et al.•ARTICLE•KIVA•2013•Citada por: 6•Referências: 19

Maize agriculture is dependent on two primary environmental factors, precipitation and temperature. Throughout the Eastern Mesa Verde region, fluctuations of these factors dramatically influenced demographic shifts, land use patterns, and social and religious transformations of farming populations during several key points in prehistory. While many studies have looked at the influence climate played in the depopulation of the northern Southwest a…

  • The Cerro Jazmín Archaeological Project

Veronica Perez Rodríguez, Kirk C Anderson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•2011•Citada por: 14•Referências: 32

We present the results of the Cerro Jazmín Archaeological Project, a mapping and intensive survey project of a hilltop urban center in the Mixteca Alta, Oaxaca, Mexico. Our archaeological and geomorphological investigations reveal a long history of intermittent occupation with the time of maximum occupation, the Early Postclassic, corresponding with soil formation and landscape stability. Our population estimates are compared with agricultural pr…

  • Multiple Dendrochronological Signals Indicate the Eruption of ParíCutin Volcano, Michoacán, Mexico

    Paul R Sheppard, Michael H Ort et al.•ARTICLE•Tree-Ring Research•2008

The eruption of Parícutin (1943–1952), a cinder cone volcano in Michoacán, Mexico, caused dendrochronological and dendrochemical responses that might be useful as general dating tools for eruptions. For the eruption period, pines near Parícutin have slightly suppressed ring widths plus high inter-annual variability of width. Wood anatomy changes include traumatic resin ducts and thin bands of false latewood. Dendrochemistry of tree rings shows li…
