Fathers and Sex-Role Development
Sex-role characteristics have been differentiated into sex-role orientation, sex-role preference, and sex-role adoption. These sex-role characteristics must, in turn, be distinguished from one's similarity to a parent. Like father, like son, implying sons' greater similarity to fathers than to mothers, must be rejected as a generalization and accepted only for specific traits. In individual sessions with 150 preschool children aged two through four, they were asked to choose which parent (in the next room) they wanted to participate with them in each of seven play activities. Interviews of 100 married Bengalee couples using oral contraceptives were conducted during May and June 1969 to study sexual behavior. Data showed women with lower educational levels experienced tolerating-disgusting feelings about sex in higher proportions than women of higher educational levels. Only 34% of women reached orgasm regularly with psychological factors given as major reason for failure. Sex urge was reported diminished by motherhood…
