  • Collecting Garbage

    Stewart E Perry, R Robert Russell et al.•BOOK•Collecting Garbage•2017

Roosevelt and Howe is a joint biography of Franklin D. Roosevelt and one of his principal advisors. Louis Howe was not only FDR's first political aide, but the only one who also became an intimate personal friend. Other than Harry Hopkins in the late 1930s, he was the only advisor whom Roosevelt trusted completely to serve his interests without distracting personal ambition or a shadowy private agenda. This book is the story of their separate ear…

  • Technological Change, Technological Catch-up, and Capital Deepening

    Subodh Kumar, R Robert Russell•ARTICLE•American Economic Review•2002

We decompose labor-productivity growth into components attributable to (1) technological change (shifts in the world production frontier), (2) technological catch-up (movements toward or away from the frontier), and (3) capital accumulation (movement along the frontier). The world production frontier is constructed using deterministic methods requiring no specification of functional form for the technology nor any assumption about market structur…

  • Forms and Extent of Employee Participation in the Contemporary United States

    Open Access•R Robert Russell, Raymond Russell•ARTICLE•Work and Occupations•1988•Citada por: 3•Referências: 37

In recent years American businesses have shown increasing interest in employee participation in a number of forms. Such innovations as employee stock ownership plans, profit sharing, labormanagement committees, quality circles, and work redesign all appear to be substantially more popular in the contemporary United States than they have been in the past. Research on the impact of these programs, however, suggests that they tend to have either neg…

    Open Access•R Robert Russell, Raymond Russell•ARTICLE•Work and Occupations•1983•Citada por: 2•Referências: 11

Efforts to operationalize 'ownership' in class formation research have emphasized diferences in power among ownership categories and have neglected the crucial question of whether an individual works for profit or for a wage. The importance of this variable is highlighted with data from the Boston taxi industry in which drivers differ little in control over their work but differ greatly in the way their work is compensated. In recent years, fleet…
