Family, School, and Peer Correlates of Adolescent Drug Abuse

Despite some leveling off of the use of marijuana by America's youth since 1978, abuse of alcohol and other drugs has continued at epidemic proportions. Congress recently increased funding for drug abuse prevention, and many social workers are likely to be involved in the design of family, school, and peer-oriented prevention projects. This article reviews the social correlates of adolescent drug misuse and suggests guidelines for developing effective prevention programs
