Many teachers recognize their responsibility to help students develop sound moral values. To assist teachers in meeting that responsibility, this study identified and examined adolescents' moral values through their written fables.Findings are reported by grade level and gender for ethnically diverse urban youth at the 6th-grade, 10th-grade, and first-year college levels. Core values represented in students' written fables related significantly to grade level but not to gender; suggesting that as urban adolescents mature, their value priorities shift. These findings can help direct school and community efforts to initiate character education programs or to strengthen andfocus currently existing ones
