Barry Troyna has been writing about 'race', racism, and education for over a decade now. In that time, he has consistently, eloquently, and provocatively argued the case for antiracist education. His prolific output-including a number of collaborative publications with other antiracist proponents-sees him as one of the leading advocates of antiracism in the academic arena. 'Arena' is carefully chosen here because a central feature of much of Troyna's work is the idea of contest-the need to actively intervene as educators in debates on 'race' and racism. This intervention is not simply an academic one for Troyna but should also centrally involve in his view the shaping and changing of educational policy. As Fazal Rizvi observes in his critical introduction to Racism and Education
