The authors describe computer programs that deal with the statistical analysis of family reconstitution data. They have used a general statistical package Statistical Analysis System (SAS) which is widely available. It has been possible to produce all the standard tables used in the classic monographs in historical demography and to retain the flexibility and power of a general statistical package....The SAS programs presented here were developed in 1983 at the University of Texas at Austin and were tested and employed at the University of Liege (Belgium). The programs were applied to more than 3600 reconstituted families from nineteenth-century Eastern Belgium with great success. (EXCERPT)
