Michael Emch and Varun Goel have provided a fine and timely review of the history and recent developments in the disease ecology tradition of health and medical geography based on their presentation at the July 2024 International Medical Geography Symposium in Atlanta, Georgia. While the treatise is comprehensive, space limits alone preclude a thorough examination of all innovation in disease ecology. This commentary responds to Emch and Goel by highlighting their accomplishment and identifying gaps and potential pathways for discussion and enhancement
