Webbing Sexual/Textual Agency in Autobiographical Narratives of Pleasure

The practice of autobiographical writing continues to be explored as both a colonizing strategy and a medium for collective counterhegemonic discourse. In this essay I submit that autobiographical writing creates possibilities for the historically invisible and marginalized Muslim lesbian subject. I highlight postmodern critiques of autobiographical subject positioning to demonstrate that autobiographical writing, as featured on the website Sehakia, is a powerful strategy for North African and Arab lesbians to perform self-representation and cultural critique. Lastly, I offer my analysis of autobiographical writing as structurally framed, yet never foreclosed, perpetually assessing ideological dynamics of knowledge synthesis, re/production, and instability
