En este artículo se analiza el papel que cumplen los contenidos violentos y pornográficos, presentes en series de televisión y películas, como instrumentos de influencia social que pueden afectar a los comportamientos y a las actitudes de las personas. En primer lugar, se revisan las investigaciones que aportan evidencias empíricas sobre los efectos que la violencia de los medios ejerce en la conducta agresiva. También se revisan las investigaciones sobre los efectos de los contenidos pornográficos. Dado que es muy frecuente que en estas producciones aparezca representado el escenario del “mito de la violación”, se recapitula sobre la investigación en este campo y se reflexiona sobre los efectos cognitivos y afectivos que pueden facilitar o promover. Finalmente, se exponen los modelos teóricos que tratan de ofrecer una explicación sobre cómo se produce la influencia o impacto de los contenidos violentos y/o pornográficos
