A breastfeeding education program was conducted among women in a rural area of the Philippines. Infant feeding practices and illness episodes in the group were measured and compared with those in a control community. A significantly greater percent of infants remained healthy in the education community from month 2 to 7, even after results were controlled for maternal age and education. Regular supplementation was apparently not linked with illness, although measurement problems are present
