Despite a growing enthusiasm for research on the material aspects of social identities and subjectivities in the discipline of archaeology, relatively few publications have considered the age-related dimensions of human life. And yet, we know logically that children were not only frequently present within our study sites, but often played a significant role in the actual deposition of the material remains we recover, analyse and interpret. This chapter will explore the constructivist approach to childhood in archaeology by both tracing emerging scholarship within the discipline, and by considering the implications of this work in relation to the material assemblages recovered from two historic sites I have excavated
