In recent years food banks in Spain have been playing an increasingly important role in meeting the basic needs of vulnerable people in order to face the current economic and social crisis, the worst in decades. This is taking place in the context of a weakening of the welfare state, which has been affected by structural shortcomings, cuts in funding and neoliberal privatizations
