Her primary research interests are in sexuality, gender, and contemporary media and popular culture in Taiwan and transnational China. She is author of Backward Glances: Contemporary Chinese Cultures and the Female Homoerotic Imaginary (Duke University Press, 2010) and Situating Sexualities: Queer Representation in Taiwanese Fiction, Film and Public Culture (Hong Kong University Press, 2003); co-editor, with Peter Jackson, Mark McLelland and Audrey Yue, of AsiaPacifiQueer: Rethinking Genders and Sexualities (Illinois University Press, 2008) and co-editor with Larissa Heinrich of Embodied Modernities: Corporeality, Representation and Chinese Cultures (University of Hawaii Press, 2006). She also edited and translated Angelwings: Contemporary Queer Fiction from Taiwan (University of Hawaii Press, 2003). Fran Martin.
