An Analysis of the Ego States of Battered Women

The ego states of battered women were analyzed through the use of Heyer's Ego State Profile Questionnaire. The results of the study indicated that battered women have a lower Adult, a higher Adapted Child, slightly higher Critical Parent and Nurturing Parent than adults in general, and a Free Child near general population norms. The study lends credence to using transactional analysis techniques to help battered women understand themselves and, if they choose, to make new decsions about their lives.
