The Indirect Analysis of Manifestations of Transference and Countertransference

Clinicians are often judged by the therapeutic language they speak rather than by the results they achieve. In some agencies, for example, the transactional analyst may find it necessary to speak in psychoanalytic terms while thinking TA. This article discusses how an indirect TA approach based on the game plan (James, 1973) can be effective in recognizing and treating manifestations of transference and countertransference in short-term transactional analysis therapy
