In response to the call for papers for this theme issue, this article considers the internal and external transactions that parch or water people’s aspirations, dreams, and imagination about connection and engagement with others. From a transactional analytic perspective, these may be thought of with regard to how people relate (in terms of transactions and games), our sense of ourselves (ego states), and our identity (script) in the context of autonomy and homonomy in human experience. The author argues that the purpose of acknowledging personal, unconscious, and/or secret processes is to make them conscious so that they can be shared and made public and, thereby, demystified and brought into public co-ownership. In this sense, the article is inspired by the theory and practice of radical psychiatry and a more social than individual view of the self. It thus stands as a contribution to transactional analysis as a social psychology
