Названия ядовитых растений в удмуртском и других финно-пермских языках

The article explores the names of poisonous plants in Udmurt in comparison with several other Finno-Permic languages: Komi, Komi-Permyak, Mari, Erzya, Moksha, Finnish, and Karelian. The folk designations reviewed in the article denote two highly poisonous plants â hemlock (Conium L.) and hornapple (Datura L.). The two major objectives of the article are, first, to study the motivations for the plant designations and, second, to analyse their semantic structure. The author employs descriptive, contrastive, and comparative methods. The total number of lexemes studied is 69 (15 from Udmurt and 54 from the other languages). The identified semantic features of the plant designations show how poisonous plants are represented in the different cultures
