In the last fifty years (1) social pathology has come to be defined in relativistic rather in than absolutistic terms; (2) it is being explained in abstract principles rather than by heterogeneous multiple factors; (3) it is being studied principally as a condition of society, characterized by conflicts of values, rather than as classes of personal behavior. The ecological method and the prediction techniques, which have been used extensively in social pathology, have limited value
