Percepções sobre o efeito da dança em pessoas com transtorno de déficit de atenção e hiperatividade

OBJECTIVE: The present study aims to understand the perceptions of people diagnosed with ADHD regarding the effects of dance on their integral development, exploring the perceived impacts on the emotional and social well-being of the participants. METHOD: The methodology used was descriptive, cross-sectional and qualitative, through an interview with dancers and former dancers who have been diagnosed with ADHD. RESULTS: The findings indicate positive and negative impacts of dance on the management of ADHD. Among the positive effects cited were: concentration, focus, retention of information, overcoming challenges, power of expression, self-esteem, socialization, discipline, following a routine, help with hyperactivity, coordination and musicality. Negative effects included class monotony and excessive concentration that results in physical and mental fatigue. CONCLUSIONS: Dance is a therapeutic path that embraces the totality of the human being, addressing their diverse needs and characteristics, with the potential for physical, psychological and social improvements
