Health promotion is often viewed as based in experience; theory is seemingly at a more abstract level. The reasons for this are many. This paper explores some theoretical perspectives which are relevant to health promotion. In particular, it considers a collective approach to the making of theory and what the components of a health behaviour and health promotion theory might include.
