Sacrifice, Pharaonic Egypt

Animals were sacrificed in ancient Egypt primarily as part of religious rituals and festivals, although celebrations, particularly royal (e.g., marking marriages or births), also called for the large‐scale slaughter of animals, their meat being given to participants as food or distributed among the populace. Animal sacrifice was a manifestation of piety, as well as a practical way of distributing food throughout different social classes, giving gifts/payment, and winning support.
