This article reviews the various theories related to the Bell Beaker phenomenon, which is viewed as an important period of later European prehistory. It explores the nature of the repeating themes found in the older and recent theories of this phenomenon, and also considers their status in the successive stages of research. The article tries to identify the peculiarities of each stage of research on the Bell Beaker phenomenon, and the wide range of similarities and recurring problems that intersect the whole historiography.
