The Commercialization of English Elite Basketball 1972-1988
A Figurational Perspective

This enquiry, based on a 'figurational' perspective, will be concerned to grasp the 'immanent dynamics' involved in the transformation of English elite basketball. This transformation involved changes in the balance of power within the game similar to those identified by Dunning (1975) in his typology on professional sports. Consideration will be given to whether English basketball witnessed a decline in its system of amateur control and detailing how the sport became increasingly commercialised. Attention will also be given to the changes and consequences which ran concomitant with this transformation
