This article compares the results of a formal analysis of the three variant patterns of the Fanti kinship terminology and the marking hierarchy they form with the results of a multi-dimensional scaling and linear regression analysis of the bases of Fanti ascription of behavior to kinsmen. Terminological categories are shown to be a product of, but not a simple reflection of, patterns of behavior in the culture
