This article explores the methodological and epistemological challenges of fieldwork in postcolonial anthropology. It argues that the experience of fieldwork, often characterized by encounters with difference and alterity, needs to be rethought in light of the complex power dynamics and historical legacies of colonialism. The author suggests that a comparative approach, attentive to both the specificities of local contexts and the broader global forces shaping them, can offer a more nuanced understanding of social and cultural phenomena. Drawing on ethnographic examples, the article examines how fieldwork can become a site for critical reflection on the production of anthropological knowledge and its implications for understanding the postcolonial world
