This essay examines the evolution of populism in Brazil from the Vargas era to the military coup of 1964. It also discusses the role of labor unions, political parties, and the military in shaping the trajectory of populism in Brazil. The essay concludes by suggesting that populism, while often associated with instability and authoritarianism, also played a significant role in advancing social and economic reforms and promoting political participation among the masses
