In 1765 the Governor of Newfoundland, Sir Hugh Palliser, requested a Labrador missionary to question the Eskimos on a wide variety of topics. The answers he obtained provide a rare early description of the Labrador Eskimos and add to our previous knowledge of their 18th-century cultural inventory
