This article focuses on an early example of the varietes television genre, the long-running Discorama, presented for the most part by Denise Glaser. While existing commentaries have emphasized the role of the programme as a launch-pad for French singer-songwriters, situated it within a realist televisual aesthetic, and regarded it as symptomatic of de Gaulle's statist broadcasting strategy, this study will show how Discorama also contributed during the 1960s and 1970s to supporting and/or challenging dominant ideologies. Moreover, following the 2007 release of Esther Hoffenberg's documentary Discorama signe Glaser, the programme and its presenter have been cited by journalists wishing to defend France's tradition of public service television.Cet article examine une des premieres emissions televisees de varietes, Discorama, animee presque exclusivement par Denise Glaser.
