The authors study a complex and partly contradictory process of modern India’s soft power formation. \nThey focus on such components as Bollywood (Indian “dream factory”), music and dance, fabrics \nand attributes, diamond industry, Bangalore (territory of innovative technologies development) and \ninternal and external policy. \nThe conception of three socio-cultural images of “India’s soft power” serves the methodological basis \nof the work. The first one relates to colonial India, the country’s historical past and the ideas of \noriental luxury. The second one is associated with the policy of non-violent resistance. The third one \ncomprises all the variety of modern information technologies. The authors come to the conclusion \nthat a harmonious balance of the three images and synthesis of various components contribute to \nstrengthening of India’s soft power
