This paper examines hunting efficiency in two groups of Yanomama villages in the Catrimani River region of northern Brazil. One group, which has relocated along the Northern Perimeter Highway, has experienced resource degradation, reflected in lowered efficiency of traditional, predominantly individual hunting techniques. However, in developing a new overall subsistence strategy, this group has modified traditional hunting techniques, resulting in higher hunting yield and increased overall hunting efficiency. Three forest villages are examined as controls
