Ziele, Handeln und agency von Kindern im Kontext der Pflegschaftspraxis in Nordbenin

Auf der Grundlage der Analyse von Fallstudien aus einer ländlichen Region in Westafrika, in der die Praxis der Kindspflegschaft weit verbreitet ist, untersucht der Beitrag Ziele, Handeln und agency (Handlungsmacht) von Kindern im Kontext von Kindspflegschaftsverhältnissen. Es wird argumentiert, dass Kinder aktiv an der Aushandlung von Pflegschaftsverhältnissen beteiligt sind und die Praxis auch selbst als Ressource für die Umsetzung eigener Projekte nutzen. Ihre Ziele, ihr Handeln und die ihnen dabei zur Verfügung stehenden Ressourcen unterliegen alters- und geschlechtsspezifischen Besonderheiten, wobei insbesondere das Alter der Kinder eine zentrale Rolle spielt. Der Beitrag hinterfragt die Erwachsenenzentriertheit in der ethnologischen Pflegschaftsforschung und Ansätze, die den an der Praxis beteiligten Kindern eine passive Rolle zuschreiben. Summary Based on individual case studies from a rural West African society where child fostering is widespread, this article examines aims of children, their agency and the ways they act in the context of child foster arrangements. It is argued that children actively participate in the negotiations around child fostering. They may also use the practice in order to realize their own projects. Nevertheless, their room for manoeuvre varies. Gender and age in particular are two important conditions shaping children's aims, resources and their scope of agency. The article challenges adult centered approaches in the anthropological study of child fostering. It further questions approaches who see the children involved in child fostering as passive objects rather than as social actors
