Determinants of post-Pandemic household food insecurity

Evidence from southern Assam, India

The article tries to detect the important socio-economic determinants of food insecurity for attaining (SDG2: Zero Hunger) in the post-COVID-19 scenario in ecologically sensitive and socio-politically complex regions like southern Assam, for providing localised empirical evidence. A representative sample of 384 households is collected from the study area, and multinomial logit and ordinary least squares regression are used. The result of the study highlighted that food insecurity significantly increased after the pandemic. Scheduled Tribe peoples, households with lower income levels, daily wage workers, and households headed by women face more food insecurity compared to others. Level of education, occupation, and access to government assistance are crucial for reaching food security. Policymakers can utilise the findings from this study and make targeted policies to ensure inclusive food security
