This paper looks at how Jens Bartelson’s Becoming International and Patrick Quinton-Brown’s Intervention before Interventionism: A Global Genealogy discuss the Bandung Conference in 1955. Bartelson’s work, which focuses on the intellectual history of how the ‘international’ was conceptualised into existence, rebukes the Bandung moment of 1955 as a triumph of empire and a continuation of imperial relations on a global scale. Quinton-Brown’s work, which is an intellectual and historical genealogy of intervention and non-interventionism, recovers an anti-colonial perspective on intervention from the Bandung moment and looks at the many contestations over interventionism throughout history. This paper assesses their arguments and comments on their respective treatments of Bandung. At its core, this paper argues that representations of Bandung should be nuanced, contextual, and mindful of its enduring contributions to anticolonial thought and praxis, especially in the Global South. This paper discusses Bandung in light of worldmaking, subaltern realism, and subaltern geopolitics, sketching some general lines of inquiry as to how these perspectives can yield rewarding insights and critical interventions in how we understand the Bandung moment
