Religião e Ciências Psicológicas

O artigo traz uma discussão crítica a respeito das relações entre Religião e Ciências Psicológicas. Adotando um sentido científico para a definição de uma e outra, Belzen saúda o crescimento em todo o mundo do interesse pelos estudos da religião e da espiritualidade, mas adverte para a necessidade de se distinguir rigorosamente o que é mera divulgação do que segue os padrões da boa metodologia de pesquisa. Faz também uma distinção entre duas concepções hoje presentes no atendimento médico-psicológico: de um lado, a tendência psiquiátrica e biomédica e, do outro, a que se orienta para aspectos de tipo fenomenológico atenta (também!) à questão da espiritualidade e da busca de sentido do paciente, julgada importante para o atendimento e cura integral do mesmo. Na atribuição do que cabe ao psiquiatra médico e ao que é atribuição do profissional que cuida da estabilidade e saúde espiritual, há alguns princípios a serem observados. Belzen enumera seis deles, apresentando-os e comentando-os a modo de teses práticas para o discernimento e o trabalho conjunto adequado entre o médico e o psicólogo chamado a intervir no atendimento
