Social Implications of Mechanization of Agriculture

This brief report contains a description of the conditions of a cross-national research, in which nine European countries and one university in the USA participated, how the work proceeded, which meetings were held, how the problem was denned, the research designed, and which hypotheses formed its basis. This is the first part of the text of a progress report presented in 1968. The second part is not reprinted since in the meantime, the final report on the project has been completed and is published in this issue.ResumeCe rapport décrit les conditions initiales d'une recherche, à laquelle collaborèrent 9 pays européens et une université américaine. La première partie est consacrée à la définition du problème, la délimitation du domaine de recherche et des hypothèses de base, à la méthodologie de l'enquête, au calendrier et au programme des réunions de travail. Cet ensemble constituait un premier rapport présenté en 1967. La seconde partie n'a pas été diffusée car, dans le même temps, le rapport final a été terminé; c'est ce dernier qui est publié dans le présent numéro.ZusammenfassungDer Bericht beschreibt die Bedingungen, unter denen eine international vergleichende Forschung begonnen wurde, an der 9 europäische Länder und eine nordamerikanische Universität teilnahmen. Der Fortgang der Arbeit, die Arbeitsbesprechungen, die Definition des Problems, die Planung der Forschungsarbeit und die Grund-Hypothesen werden dargestellt. Dieses ist der erste Teil eines Arbeitsberichts, der 1968 vorgelegt wurde. Der zweite Teil wird nicht gedruckt, weil in der Zwischenzeit der Endbericht über das Forschungsvorhaben abgeschlossen ist. Er wird in dieser Nummer von Sociologia Ruralis veröffentlicht.ResumenEl informe describe las condiciones bajo las cuales se inició una investigación internacional comparada de la cual participaron nueve países europeos y una universidad norteamericana. Fueron presentados la continuación del trabajo, su discusión, la definición de los problemas, la programación de las investigaciones y las bases e hipótesis. Esta es la primera parte del informe de un trabajo realizado en 1968. La segunda parte no será publicada ya que el informe final del proyecto de investigación ha sido concluído y será publicado en este número de Sociología Ruralis
