In The Lusiads the expression of poetry-the poetry of Voyage-is opposed to the expression of Empire. This opposition is semantical as well as formal: themes and morpho-syntactical structures are intertwined. Both are analysed in detail. In fact, the relation of Voyage to Empire is complex, as each one "acts" upon the other, with different degrees of success
