O (in)acesso ao Sistema Único de Saúde por populações remanescentes de quilombos

Like other historically marginalized populations in Brazilian society, quilombolas have suffered in several -if not all -sectors of their organization.Access to education, leisure, food, work, health, and others, although guaranteed as a right as citizens, does not happen in reality.Parting from the Social Determinants of Health (SDH), one can understand how health and its access are influenced by history, past, socialization, economic condition and participation in society (inclusion / exclusion).In the case of marginalized populations, the process of historical and long exclusion they have suffered has influenced their access to basic rights, now guaranteed by the Constitution, such as health.The numbers are alarming and show a huge discrepancy regarding access to the same rights by the national population.In the case of black populations, the historical process of enslavement and consequent sequels made it necessary to attend exclusively to these groups.Specific, equitable public policies are a means of achieving equity in health.Knowing the historical and current configuration of quilombos and the existence of laws and public policies that guarantee basic rights, one can compare with what is the reality faced by these populations when it comes to health.This study proposes, based on field work carried out in the quilombola Kalunga community of Engenho II, focusing on the access to the SUS by the community and considering the new meaning attributed to the quilombo concept currently -that allows specific public policies for this population -, to rethink and problematize the (in) access of these communities to the health services offered by the Brazilian State, based on the principle of equity in health
