As life expectancy increases, older adults have a higher probability of experiencing various forms of physical frailty and social vulnerability, challenging their autonomy and independent living. In this context, new technologies specifically designed to meet their needs are developed and marketed. While their positive contributions are acknowledged, actors in the field and the scientific literature alike have identified significant limitations. This article introduces a French–Japanese research project, INNOVCARE, whose aim is to develop fundamental research on the heterogenous and evolving needs of older adults and incorporate it into the conception and development of these technologies, with the aim of promoting a form of innovation led by care
