program for the 1942 meeting of the Association of American Geographers (postponed) included a joint session with the American Historical Association on The Historical Approach to Geopolitics, with Professor Harold A. Innis as discussant. editor of the Geographical Review took advantage of the opportunity and invited Professor Innis to review some of the recently putblished works in the field. In response he laid down a serious challenge to geography and geographers, and Professor Broek was asked to take up the gauntlet. Their arguments are presented here without elaboration and with appreciation of the time taken by the authors from their pressing duties
