Peaceful Transition from Socialism to Capitalism

Marxism has traditionally viewed history as essentially a one-directional process. Capitalism inevitably generates the forces which will in due course produce socialism; and socialism, once established, equally inevitably evolves toward the full classless society of communism. To be sure, this process was never thought of as smooth and continuous. The transition from capitalism to socialism would have to be a revolutionary jump, and counter-revolutionary setbacks could not be ruled out.
