The Southern Plains Craft Lithic Cache

A cache recovered from the Pease River area in northern Texas illustrates the potential and limitations of cache analyses geared towards finding “the individual in prehistory.” Reassembly of the implements into their original core groups demonstrates a single flintknapper’s range of variability. Examination of metric attributes and use wear separates the different behaviors that are reflected in the cached implements. Comparison to the Gibson lithic cache offers insight into tool use life and curation. Raw material acquisition and caching behaviors are also discussed
