In most respects adult education does not differ from any other significant education; its chief difference lies in the degree of voluntary selectivity of the way of learning, and the ages of the participants. Most adult education is tailor-made to suit the particular needs of the participant. Because its participants are usually engaged in a vocation or are seriously seeking to find one, adult education deals with people who are no longer engaged in full-time formal schooling. Like any other valuable education, however, good adult education is selected by the learner. It does not include chance or accidental experience, even though some of these may have educational values. The way of learning must be consciously planned, organized, and vigorously followed by both the learner and the leader in order
